A 3D model of palmiers will be created in the Hermitage

For an exhibition dedicated to the cultural heritage of Syria, the State Hermitage will prepare the virtual 3D model of the ancient city of Palmir, which was destroyed by ISIS militants (a terrorist organization banned in the Russian Federation).

This was reported by TASS with reference to the General Director of the Hermitage Mikhail Piotrovsky.

“Now, many museums of the world are made virtual restoration of Palmyra, and in our Hermitage volunteers also create such a project for an official exhibition dedicated to Syria. Volunteers are preparing a 3D emission of monuments, ”said Piotrovsky.

ISIS was captured in May 2015. In June, the militants blew up two Muslim tombs in Palmyra, in July theydestroyed several monuments of the pre -Islamic period, at the end of August they executed the archaeologist Halid Asaad, the keeper of the Palmyra monuments, destroyed the temple of Baalshamin and demolished the CE of B.E. The temple of Bela, and in the fall, was blown up by the triumphal arch of the II century AD

The reconstruction that they are going to create in the Hermitage will be based on preserved historical and modern images of colonades and temples of Palmyra at the time before the destruction of the city. According to the director of the Hermitage, the task of recreating the type of palmira is not set, since "no one can do it with taste."
