Ukraine temporarily suspended the transit of Russian trucks

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine decided to suspend transit movements of trucks from Russia through the country. This is stated in the message posted on the government portal.

"The Russian Federation in violation of the rules and procedures of the World Trade Organization and the Bilateral Inter -government Agreement on Roads unilaterally stopped the movement of Ukrainian freight vehicles in Russia. Until the explanations from the Russian side and resolve this issue, Ukraine temporarily stops transit transportation by trucks registered in Russia, in Ukraine," the report said.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine sent a note of Russia demanding an explanation of such illegal actions. According to Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk, Kyiv demands from Moscow to "urgently fulfill the requirements of the WTO and resume the transit movement of Ukrainian vehicles."

Yatsenyuk also noted that the Ukrainian side is consulting with the member countries of the European Union and addresses the EU member countries regarding Russia's basic principles of the World Trade Organization.

Press Secretary of Vladimir Putin Dmitry Peskov called absolutely outrageous "lawlessness regarding Russian carriers." “This absolutely contradicts international law, the principles of an international organization that is engaged in international transportation,” he added. “This does not climb into any gate, what is called.”

The day before, Russia banned the passage of trucks registered in Ukraine through its territory. Such a measure was accepted in response to the civil blockade of Russian trucks on the borders of Ukraine, including with the countries of the European Union: Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and Romania. "These actions are a gross violation of the agreement between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Ukrainian Government on an international automobile message, according to which the parties provide the possibility of transit transportation in their territories," the Ministry of Transport said.

The ban, the officials assure, will remain in force "before the settlement of the Ukrainian side of the situation" with the blockade of Russian trucks.

The blockadewas started on Thursday in the Transcarpathian region . In the following days, activists from other areas joined the action: Zhytomyr, Rivne, Volyn , Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Chernivtsi, as well as the internal Dnipropetrovsk and bordering Chernihiv and Sumy. On Sunday, readiness to join the blockade was announced in the Vinnitsa region.

The rally was supported by right -wing parties: Una -UNSO, "Right Sector", "Freedom", as well as organizations uniting participants in the ATO.

On Saturday, with the approval of the blockade, the chairman of the Majlis of the Crimean Tatar people Refat Chubarov spoke on his Facebook page. “A completely responsible position of the Civil Society of Ukraine,” the politician wrote. “It seems important to conduct negotiations with activists of the Civil Society of Belarus, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia on their organization of similar shares in the territories of their states.”

The civil blockade of Crimea, begun by the Mejlis with the support of Ukrainian activists on September 20, 2015, a few months later led to the ban on the supply of goods from continental Ukraine to the annexed peninsula.
