The “February 26 Case” was returned for further investigation

The collegium of the Supreme Court of Crimea returned the "Case of February 26", initiated against Crimean Tatar activists, to the prosecutor's office. This was announced by Nikolai Polozov, a lawyer for one of the main defendants in the case, deputy chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Akhtem Chiygoz.

This decision was made at the request of Chiygoz himself, who pointed out that all the wording of the accusation against him was vague, and this contradicts the Russian Code of Criminal Procedure, which requires extremely specific charges.

As Polozov noted, on Monday morning, the judges suddenly decided to return to the question of the specificity of Chiygozu's charges. This step, according to the lawyer, is explained by the fact that the authorities did not expect such attention to the trial. Now, the lawyer did not rule out, they want to "strengthen the position of the prosecution."

Earlier on Monday, the Memorial Human Rights Center announced that the defendants in the case, Akhtem Chiygoz, Ali Asanov and Mustafa Degermendzhi, were recognized as political prisoners.
