The zone of the gap
This year, Colta.ru decided to go to the experiment and invited to temporary curators over the section “Photo projects” of young and talented representatives of leading Russian photocurium. We divided the calendar year between six curators and asked them to select the most interesting samples of modern Russian photography for publication.

The first resident: Katerina Zueva, curator of exhibition projects of the Photography Center named after the Brothers Lumier since 2010. The scope of research interests is an independent photograph in the USSR in the 1970-1990s, as well as young Russian photography, copyright photo books.

The project of Yanina Boldireva (Novosibirsk) and Alexander Isaenko (Odessa) “Zone of Break”, which exists, including in the form of an author’s book, was created as a reflection on the military operations between Russia and Ukraine. Yanina and Alexander say this about this work: “The war and the destruction that it produces in personality and in society, its shocks and death can be found in ordinary life. The war only makes them brighter and more convex, becoming the concentration of conflict, aggression and its consequences. We tried to get away from the documentary in the direction of the artistic and figurative image, removing the attributes of time and place, concentrating on the understanding and drugs of the conflict mechanism itself. We used recycled images, scans, rebuilt photographs: this conceptual technique reflects our feeling of what is happening - a fragile, plastic psyche of a person with which you can do anything, the breakdown of human destinies, the illusoryness of the personality, the simulativeness of reality. We build bridges between archetypal images and personal experiences. We are interested in how commonplace becomes war and war - by everyday life. ”
