For the first time since its appearance, sales of the smartphones of the Apple corporation have been reduced, RBC reports with reference to the data of analysts at the research company Gartner.
According to experts, for the fourth quarter of 2015, the number of iPhone to end users sold to end users decreased by 4.4%compared to the same period, from 74.8 million to 71.5 million pieces. At the same time, Apple's share in the smartphone market decreased from 20.4 to 17.7%.
The main reason for the fall of iphone sales in Gartner is the exchange rate fluctuations in currencies. At the end of January, during the telephone conference on the discussion of the financial indicators of Apple for the fourth quarter of 2015, Tim Cook, head of Apple, also lamented the same problem.
It is worth noting that the data presented by Gartner does not coincide with the official report of sales, according to which the company sold 74.8 million iPhone a year earlier in the fourth quarter of the last calendar year. At the same time, sales growth of 300 thousand devices in the company were recognized as a record low.
The divergence of data in Gartner was explained by the fact that Apple considers those smartphones that retailers are also sold, and Gartner takes into account only the gadgets sold by the final buyer. “Gartner methodology is based on Apple and“ other data, ”the representative of RBC explained.
In total, according to Gartner, in the fourth quarter of 2015, about 403 million smartphones were sold in the world, 9.7% more than a year earlier. The company's analysts have described this growth as the most modest since 2008. At the same time, according to the results of 2015, the smartphone market increased by 14.4%.
