Tesla, founded by Elon Musk, has acquired the rights to the Tesla.com domain. Since 1992, this domain has been registered to Silicon Valley engineer Stu Grossman, who did not use it, but refused to give in to other applicants.
Musk's company, according to Bloomberg, has been trying to get this domain for at least 10 years.
A lawyer representing Grossman confirmed the transfer of rights to the domain, without revealing the details of the agreement with Musk's company.
“Grossman is an engineer and a big fan of Nikola Tesla,” the lawyer said. - He [the domain] was with him, and now - with the car company. I assume that this happened as a result of a voluntary agreement.
The acquisition of the Tesla.com domain, Bloomberg notes, will allow Musk to rename Tesla Motors to Tesla, as originally planned. In 2015, when answering journalists' questions about changing the company's name to Tesla, Musk cited problems with the domain.
A Tesla Motors spokesperson confirmed that Tesla.com is now owned by the company.
