Ukraine is outraged by the demolition of Shevchenko’s house in Orenburg

The Ukrainian authorities expressed indignation at the demolition in Russian Orenburg at home, where in 1849 Taras Shevchenko lived in exile. It is reported by Ukrainian Pravda.

The destruction of the monument was reported on Wednesday at a meeting of Cabinet of Cabinet of Ministers Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Culture Vyacheslav Kirilenko. “In the city of Orenburg, the Russian Federation, the building was destroyed, where Taras Shevchenko was located during the exile, which was arranged by the then Russian Tsar,” the official said. “The current Russian“ Tsar ”, President Putin, probably wants to destroy the memory of Shevchenko.”

The poet’s house was a monument of architecture of federal significance and had the appropriate security number, Kirilenko noted. Despite this, the construction was completely demolished, and in its place they equipped parking for customers of the Rus Bank. “This is a violation of not only national legislation - this is their internal business, but also all international norms,” the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized.

In Ukraine, there are enough memorable places related to Russian culture figures, Kirilenko added. At the same time, he remarked, "it does not occur to anyone to destroy the house in our minds, say where Pushkin was."

Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk instructed the country's Ministry of Defense to send a note to the Russian diplomatic department in connection with the destruction of the monument. In addition, the Ministry of Culture and the Foreign Ministry intend to contact UNESCO and other international organizations protection organizations demanding to respond to Russia's actions.

According to Orenday.ru, Shevchenko’s house in Orenburg, located at ul. March 8, 29/9, on the corner with the lane named after the poet, was demolished in June 2015. Nevertheless, this fact did not publicly publicize this fact. Only on February 20, 2016, a local resident Andrei Lysenko got a case in the city OP-1 to have a case on the fact of demolition. The case was opened under Article 243 of the Criminal Code (the destruction of cultural heritage objects), which provides for up to three, and in the case of the destruction of a particularly valuable monument - up to six years in the colony.

On Wednesday, Orenday.ru reported that the sign with the inscription "Monument of history and culture, which was standing on the house of Shevchenko. Is protected by the state" now lies at the entrance to the parking lot of the Bank "Rus".
