Moscow student Varvara Karaulova (Alexandra Ivanova), concluded in the Lefortovo pre -trial detention center on charges of attempting to join IS, filed a complaint with the ECHR. This was reported by RBC with reference to the lawyer of political prisoner Sergei Badamshin.
Karaulova claims that Russia violated Article 5 (the right to freedom and personal integrity) and 6 (the right to a fair trial) of the European Convention. Violation of Article 5, explained to the publication of Badamshin, was expressed in the sending of it by the pre -trial detention center and subsequent extensions of the arrest, and the violation of Article 6 was that during the hearings the judges stated the prove the guilt of Karaulova, while the answer to the question of the guilt of the student can only consider her case on the merits.
The complaint also reports the illegal refusal of the FSB investigator E. Zotchik , who was leading the Karaulova case, to allow Badamshin and another lawyer of the student, Haji Aliyev, to their client in Lefortovo in November 2015.
The political prisoner asks to consider her complaint in priority and take urgent measures to free her from the pre -trial detention center. About 30 letters and thanks received by the applicant were attached to the document.
In May 2015, a 19 -year -old warehouse of Moscow State University Karaulova left home - according to the FSB to join IS in Syria. As it turned out, she was carried away by the ideas of radical Islam, but kept her beliefs secret from her parents. Eyewitnesses claimed that after leaving the house, the student changed into hijab.
On June 4, Karaulov was detained in the Turkish city of Kilis near the border with Syria. A week later, the student was taken to Moscow.
The Investigative Committee conducted a preliminary investigation on the facts of the possible participation of Karaulova in the activities of the extremist community and its recruitment. According to the results of the audit, at the end of July, he refused to initiate the case against the student. After that, she changed her name and surname, becoming Alexandra Ivanova.
Meanwhile, on October 23, the FSB opened a case against the student under Part 1 of Article 30 - Part 2 of Article 205.5 of the Criminal Code (preparation for participation in the activities of a terrorist organization). On October 27, Karaulova was detained, and the next day the Lefortovo District Court arrested her . Later, the student was an official charge.
In November, the investigator Zotchik during the consideration of the arrest of Karaulova stated that the student fully pleaded guilty . Meanwhile, the arrested herself at the same meeting refused the lawyers by appointment, trusting Badamshin and Aliyev to represent her interests.
On February 8, 2016, it became known that Karaulova refused confessions . "As for her goals and motives for departure to Syria, she went to her beloved man, and not for joining IG," Badamshin said.
