The legacy of the poet Alexei Koltsov (1808 - 1842) is small in terms of volume, but very significant in its artistic value. His poems are ingenuous and natural. That is what they struck contemporaries. His lyrics, singing ordinary peasants, their work and their life, inspired Glinka, Mussorgsky, Rimsky-Korsakov, Rachmaninov to write songs and romances. And his immortal “farm” has long been performed as a folk song. Koltsov created a poetry connecting Pushkin and Lermontov with Nekrasov, Klyuyev, Isakovsky, Twardowski and other folk poets.

Many fellow countrymen considered Koltsov’s traction to compounds something like madness. So the clerk of their family recalled: “There was nothing small, but you know, it was eccentric. Where to do it, and he compose songs. ”

The famous Herzen Martyrologist, following the names of the Russian geniuses Pushkin, Lermontov, Venevitinov, said: "Koltsov was killed by his family, thirty -three years old."
