Initiator of the “Million Muslim March” arrested in Dagestan

Muhammad Magomedov, an activist of the public organization Union of the Just, who was under house arrest, was taken into custody yesterday at the request of the FSB.

Magomedov was detained on May 23, 2015. He is charged with the illegal manufacture and possession of weapons, as well as, possibly, inciting hatred and organizing the activities of a terrorist organization in connection with membership in Hizb ut-Tahrir. The activist does not admit guilt. At first, Magomedov was taken into custody, but in June 2015 the defense managed to secure his release under house arrest.

On February 25, the Soviet Court of Makhachkala changed Muhammad Magomedov's measure of restraint and took him into custody. A spokesman for the FSB was in favor of tightening the preventive measure. He motivated this by the fact that Magomedov changed his place of residence several times and did not warn the investigation about this, relatives of the activist told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

According to relatives, Magomedov really does not have his own housing, and for various reasons he was forced to move from one rented apartment to another. But at the same time, Magomed warned the investigator about this every time, the relatives emphasized.

Muhammad Magomedov tried to organize a rally against Caucasian phobia in Moscow in January 2014, which became known as the "march of a million Muslims", but the mayor's office did not agree on the action. In January 2014, it became known that Magomedov became a suspect in the case of participation in an extremist organization - the reason for this, according to the activist, was his participation in the conference "Problems of Islam in Russia" in 2012.

Magomedov is also accused of converting a traumatic pistol into a combat one.
