Alexandra Kutas, a model with disabilities - about overcoming a ramp, war and a dream

Alexandra Kutas flew to New York alone. Her wheelchair was damaged in an airplane, however, they immediately bought a new one. Then there was a road to New Jersey, almost daily trips to New York-to a snow storm and under heavy rain, work offers and refusals, interviews for radio and new acquaintances.

Kutas is the first Ukrainian model with disabilities. For the first time she was noticed at sixteen years old-a photographer girl approached a beauty sitting in a cafe and suggested taking a photo shoot.

Last year, Kutas photographs could be seen in Kyiv, at the Ukrainian Fashion Week.

Kutas’s dream was on the catwalk of New York Fashion Week. This time, the metropolis, where the model arrived for the third time, met it ugly - bad weather, traffic jams, not quite successful negotiations - it was not possible to take part in the show, the schedules did not coincide.

She had several photo shoots, one of them with the New York photographer Mike Dow. Like Kutas, Mike is more likely an exception to the rules, he has schizophrenia, which does not prevent him from working, getting awards, enjoying family life (his wife, Ming Chen -Artist in Makeyu) and fencing (Mike was a mile of fencing).

A couple of days after the photo shoot, Kutas returned to her hometown, Dnepropetrovsk. For her, it promises to be fascinating for her: in addition to a fashion model’s career, Kutas is working on a project to equip the city with ramps, and also develops the concept of travel shows involving people with limited physical capabilities. In addition, she worked as a volunteer in Ukrainian hospitals, where the military who were injured in battles in the east of the country lie.
