Macedonia police used tear gas against hundreds of migrants and refugees that storm its border from Greece. According to eyewitnesses, the law enforcement officers sprayed tears in the crowd several times, which tried to break the metal gates on the border with Greece, and in migrants who sat on railway tracks in protest, demanding further travel to Macedonia, Reuters reports.

The skirmishes between migrants and the police began after the refugees limited the movement through the Balkans. As a result, in the Greek village of Idomi Border, according to unofficial data, up to eight thousand migrants - mainly citizens of Syria and Iraq.

On Monday, February 29, refugees tried to break through the border using a metal pillar. With the help of him, they rammed the fence behind which the police stood. Macedonia, where migrants are sent from Greece following the "Balkan route" to the west of Europe, back in November 2015 allowed the entrance only to citizens of Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria. On February 21, border guards stopped letting the Afghans and strengthened the verification of documents of arriving Syrians and Iraqis.

Athens require the resume of refugees. On February 28, the First Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs and Administrative Reform of Greece Migration Policy Joannis Muzalas said that at the moment about 22 thousand migrants were blocked in Greece, of which 6.5 thousand are in Idomi on the border with Macedonia.
