1921 The beginning of the uprising in Kronstadt

95 years ago, on March 1, 1921, an anti-Bolshevik uprising of sailors began in Kronstadt. A 15,000-strong rally took place on Anchor Square under the slogan "Power to the Soviets, not to parties!". The speech of the head of the All-Russian Central Executive Committee Mikhail Kalinin at the rally was disrupted, although he was freely released from the fortress. But the commissioner of the Baltic Fleet, Nikolai Kuzmin, was arrested. The sailors and Red Army men supported the striking workers of Petrograd and demanded the release from prison of all representatives of the socialist parties, ensuring freedom of speech, assembly, trade, the creation of parties, freedom of handicraft production and the right of peasants to own land and freely dispose of the products of their labor.
