Patriarch Kirill will consecrate the temple for future diplomats

The Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus' Kirill will consecrate the temple of St. Alexander Nevsky at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO) on March 6. This was announced on Thursday by the press secretary of the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church Priest Alexander Volkov.

“The opening of the temple at the main diplomatic university of the country will be a landmark event, similar to the opening of the Church of St. Tatyana at Moscow State University in the mid -90s. In this sense, it is very important that the leadership of MGIMO has been given real support for the construction of the temple, and university students also become parishioners of the temple,” TASS quoted Volkov as saying. He noted that the numerous community of the temple has existed for several years and many people have been visited in a temporary temple, including students and teachers of MGIMO.

"The consecration of the temple at MGIMO is an event that both members of the community and students of a diplomatic university have long been waiting for," the press secretary said.

The temple of the Holy Prince Alexander Nevsky is a patriarchal courtyard at MGIMO.

The idea of ​​building a temple under MGIMO was born in 1999. Its initiators were teachers and university students. In 2005, the construction was blessed by the Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus' Alexy II, and at the same time it was decided to devote the temple to the faithful prince Alexander Nevsky - the patron saint of the Russian army and diplomacy. The construction of the temple began in 2013 as part of the implementation of a large -scale program for the construction of Orthodox churches in Moscow.
