VKontakte completed the courts with all major musical copyright holders

The Social Network "VKontakte" was won by the court against the musical meajor Warner Music on a suit about the illegal distribution of music on the social network, VC.ru reports. This process was the last for the social network in a series of proceedings with large musical copyright holders.

Warner Music demanded that the social network remove two tracks of Rumer performers, nine records of the Charlie XCX performer and six Lianne La Havas works, as well as pay compensation, but the arbitration court did not satisfy the requirements of the copyright holder.

“The court once again rejected the plaintiff’s demand for the recovery of 20.4 million rubles from the social network, as well as other intangible requirements. Thus,“ VKontakte ”secured his status of a bona fide information intermediary,” said the social network spokesman Yevgeny Krasnikov.

On the eve of VKontakte, the court was also won against Universal Music, which demanded to remove 11 tracks of Roma Kengi and two tracks of Natalia Gordienko from the social network, as well as pay compensation in the amount of 20.4 million rubles.

On March 1, the social network was completed by the court with Nikitin Media Dijital Content. Initially, VKontakte was supposed to delete 10 tracks of Grigory Leps and pay the copyright holder 750 thousand rubles, but in the end, the social network was able to avoid payment by agreeing with the copyright holder about effective ways of interacting in the field of protecting intellectual rights and mutually beneficial cooperation.

Recall that in mid -February, VKontakte entered into a settlement agreement with the Russian studio "Soyuz", and in July 2015 the social network was also able to come to an agreement with Sony Music.

Thus, according to Krasnikov, VKontakte completed all the courts with large musical copyright holders.
