FSKN will help the Ministry of Sports to investigate doping use

The Federal Drug Control Service (FSKN) will take part in the investigation of doping in Russian sports. This was stated by the head of department Viktor Ivanov.

“Such an appeal (of the Ministry of Sports) has been received, we will provide assistance, although I must say that dopings are not psychotropic drugs or precursors,” Interfax quotes him.

On March 10, Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko announced that his agency would ask the Federal Drug Control Service to conduct an administrative investigation into doping.

“In general, I would like law enforcement agencies to finally conduct an investigation, because we have administrative responsibility for inciting people to take doping,” Mutko said at the time.

• In November 2015, an independent commission of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) published a report that spoke about the use of doping by Russian athletes with the connivance of sports officials. After that, the activities of the Russian anti-doping agency (RUSADA) were suspended, and Russian athletes were suspended from participation in international competitions.
• In March 2016, it became known about cases of use by Russian athletes of the drug meldonium, which has been banned since the beginning of the year. Among those who passed a positive doping test were cyclist Eduard Vorganov, figure skater Ekaterina Bobrova, tennis player Maria Sharapova, speed skater Pavel Kulizhnikov, biathlete Eduard Latypov, short trackers Semyon Elistratov and Ekaterina Konstantinova, volleyball player Alexander Markin, and rugby players Alexei and Alena Mikhaltsovs.
