The Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe adopted a resolution against bans on gay pride events in Moscow

On March 10, the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe (CMCE) adopted at its meeting a resolution on the failure by the Russian authorities to comply with the ruling of the European Court of Human Rights in the case of Alekseev v. Russia on the illegality of refusals to approve public actions in defense of LGBT rights.

In their decision, the Deputy Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the member states of the Council of Europe expressed their concern that, although the ruling in this case entered into force five years ago, gay pride events are still not coordinated in Russia, and the Russian parties do not take the side of the applicants for such events. .

On October 21, 2010, the European Court of Human Rights found the Moscow authorities' bans on holding public actions of the Moscow Gay Pride in 2006, 2007 and 2008 unlawful. This decision came into force on April 11, 2011 after the rejection of the Russian government's appeal to the Grand Chamber of the Strasbourg Court.
