General Staff: The Russian Federation from March 22 can use military force against a truce in Syria

The head of the Russian Center for Reconciliation at the Khmeimim air base, Sergei Kuralenko, said that the ceasefire in Syria is regularly violated. In this regard, Russia may begin to attack violators if in the near future the Russian authorities do not receive an answer from the United States to proposals to monitor the truce currently on February 27.

According to Kuralenko, from the end of February, almost 250 cases of violation of the ceasefire were recorded in Syria, TASS reports.

The head of the main operational department (GOU) of the Russian General Staff, Sergei Rudskoy, emphasized in a statement received by Newsru.com that since March 22, the Russian Federation is ready to unilaterally apply military force against armed groups that systematically violate the truce.

Rudskoy said that the Russian side sent the United States a compromise draft agreement on the control over the regime of termination of hostilities in Syria, and also offered to conduct expert consultations as soon as possible to coordinate the text of the document.

However, according to Rudskiy, the Russian-American consultations that were on March 18 in Amman revealed the unexpected United States to discuss the proposals of Moscow. "Pulling out with the entry into force of the coordinated response rules to violations of the regime of termination of hostilities in Syria is unacceptable. As a result of provocative actions and shelling there, civilians die every day," the general said.

The representative of the Russian General Staff emphasized that "military force will be applied only after reliable evidence of a systematic violation by armed formations of obligations" as part of a joint Russian-American statement on the termination of hostilities in Syria of February 22, 2016.

"In relation to the formations observing the ceasefire, as well as civilians and civilian objects, military force will not be applied," Rudskoy added.

Earlier, the Russian Center for the Reconciliation of the warring parties in Syria warned of the likely preparation for the attack of terrorists in the province of Hama. On March 19, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported on the absence of major reservoirs in Syria.

Since February 27, Syria has a ceasefire in Syria, agreed with the participation of military personnel of Russia and the United States. It does not apply to the Islamic State and Jebhat al-Nusra groups (both are prohibited in the Russian Federation), as well as other formations recognized by the UN Security Terrorist Council. At the moment, 43 groups reported on the adoption of the conditions of the ceasefire, the agreements on reconciliation have been reached with chapters 51 of the settlement.

On March 14, President Vladimir Putin announced the withdrawal of the main grouping of Russian forces from Syria, explaining that the tasks assigned to the Ministry of Defense were generally completed.
