The defense appealed the decision of the judge of the Presnensky district court of Moscow Evgeny Naydenov. On January 27, he extended the home arrest of Sharina until April 28 . The investigator motivated his request by the need to interrogate a number of witnesses, get the results of a cultural linguistic and psychological examination on books, as well as conduct other investigative actions.

According to the results of the search, Sharin was detained. She was charged with paragraph "B" of part 2 of Article 282 of the Criminal Code (excitement of hatred or enmity committed using its official position) - a composition for which the code provides for up to five years of the colony. On October 30, the Tagansky district court of Moscowplaced the detainee under house arrest . On December 14, searches took place in the apartments of the library of Anna Pavlyukova, Tatyana Muntean and Vitaly Krikunenko. On the same day, President Vladimir Putin said that he knew nothing about the matter of Sharina. At a meeting of the Presidential Council for Culture and Art, literary critic Alexander Arkhangelsky turned to Putin with a request to intervene in the fate of the director of the library. “The first time I hear about the detention and house arrest, I just can’t even comment, because I don’t know what it is about,” Putin said. The president promised to find out the circumstances of this case .
At the same time, Putin said that the library should be preserved even in the context of an exacerbation of Russian-Ukrainian relations. “What we should definitely pay attention to is the library. It should not be lost in any case,” the president emphasized.
