The collision of a Turkish cargo ship with a support of a working bridge under construction in the Kerch Strait will not affect the progress of work. This statement was made on Wednesday, March 23, by the Taman Federal Highways Administration, which is the customer for the construction, reports . TASS

“The incident with the dry cargo ship Lyra, as a result of which the support of working bridge No. 2 in the Kerch Strait was damaged (three piles of support No. 80 of the working bridge were bent), will not affect the progress and period of construction of this working bridge,” the department said in a statement . “Moreover, this will not have any impact on the timing of the construction of the main bridge to Crimea,” emphasizes the Taman Federal Highways Administration.

Previously, the news agency wrote that the collision of a sea vessel with a support occurred on March 19, but it became known only now. “Neither the ship nor the crew were injured,” the department said in a statement. “At the moment, the contractor is assessing the damage. The incident will be resolved in court,” the statement emphasizes.

Working bridges for the delivery of materials and equipment to the construction sites of the Kerch Bridge are laid towards each other from the side of Kerch and Tuzla Island in the direction of the fairway, reminds TASS. The work front does not affect the Kerch-Yenikalsky Canal navigation zone, the news agency indicates.

The supports of the main bridge's navigable span, according to the project, will be protected from possible ship pile-ups by special hydraulic structures - firewalls. They will be built from metal sheet piling with stone backfill and reinforced concrete cap.

It is planned that construction work on the bridge will be completed in December 2018, and then traffic will be opened in working mode. In 2019, after all commissioning and landscaping of the territory, the bridge is planned to be put into operation.
