Kara for Karadzhich

The international tribunal for the former Yugoslavia found the ex-leader of the Bosnian Serbs, Radova Karadzhich, guilty of crimes against humanity and sentenced him to 40 years in prison. It is reported by the BBC.

Karadzhich was accused of genocide, involvement in genocide, murders, deportation and other inhuman actions regarding Muslims, Croats and other civilian population of non-regional nationality during the Civil War in Bosnia and Herzegovin in 1992-95.

In particular, the court recognized Karadzhich as responsible for organizing the mass murder of Muslims in Srebrenitsa in 1995. More than 7 thousand men became victims of the massacre. Karadzhich was also found guilty of organizing attacks on civilians and murders during the siege of the city of Sarajevo.

At the same time, the court decided to remove from the ex-leader of the Bosnian Serbs one of the two accusations of the genocide. Thus, Karadzhich was found guilty of 10 out of 11 points of prosecution.

According to the Supreme Commissioner of the UN Human Rights Zeida Raad al-Hussein, the sentence of Karadzhich will be a warning to all European leaders prone to the manifestation of nationalism.

The prosecutor demanded the sentence of Karadzhich to a life imprisonment. Karadzhich himself said that he did not consider himself guilty of the genocide and would refer to the acquittal of MTBU. Karadzhich did not deny that during the Bosnian war, crimes were committed, however, according to him, he personally was not involved in them. At the same time, Karadzhich insisted that the Bosnian Serbs acted as part of self -defense.

Karadzhich was wanted in 1995, but it was detained only on July 18, 2008 in a suburb of Belgrade . It was reported that the operation was involved in the American and British special services. Karadzhich was caught thanks to an anonymous call to Serbian intelligence. The caller told about a certain healer whose voice reminded him of Karadzhich. The special services found that he really lived in Belgrade under a fictional name and worked in one of the clinics, engaged in alternative medicine.
