2006 The destruction of the opposition tent city in Minsk

Ten years ago, on the night of March 24, 2006, in Minsk, the police and the KGB destroyed an opposition tent camp on Kastrychnitskaya Square. Here were representatives of democratic movements from different regions of Belarus. More than 500 youth activists were detained, mainly from the Zubr and Youth Front parties. The tent city arose after a March 21 demonstration by the opposition protesting against the falsification of the results of the presidential elections, in which Alexander Lukashenko won another victory with 83.2% of the vote.
