"Yandex. Slovaria" is closed to unite with the "translator"

On Thursday, March 31, one of the Yandex services - Yandex. Sliding will cease its work. The company’s blog says that the functionality will be transmitted to the Yandex.P.

As reminded of Yandex, the history of the service began with the Yandex.lingvo and Yandex. Encyclopedia projects. In the first, a collection of ABBYY dictionaries was presented, and the second search for information in electronic reference books and encyclopedias. "Yandex. Slovaria" appeared as a result of their unification. Recently, translation dictionaries and dictionaries of the Russian language have also been presented in the service.

Now Yandex is working in two services with electronic dictionaries - actually "Yandex. Sliding" and "Yandex.P." The translator was created to automatically translate phrases, texts and sites based on machine translation technology. However, over time, he turned into a full -fledged dictionary. At the same time, in "Yandex. Slovaria", as statistics shows, they often come in in order to translate this or that word.

The mechanisms on which these two services work are different. Professional linguists worked on the majority of articles in Yandex.Plovars, and articles in Yandex.Transter are formed automatically.

“Each of the approaches has its own advantages and disadvantages. On the one hand, in a dictionary composed by people, there is less chance of finding a mistake - although, of course, everything happens. On the other hand, the machine dictionary is much more flexible - it responds to changes and develops along with the language,” the Yandex notes.

The company warned users of the “notebook” functions that all records will be available to save to a computer or transfer to Yandex.P.
