The Egyptair plane was captured in Egypt, which operated from Alexandria to Cairo. According to Bloomberg, 81 passengers were on board the airliner.

A320 flew out of Alexandria at 8 am local time. It is assumed that an explosive device could be carried on his board - a terrorist with a suicide bomb was allegedly able to get into the cockpit. However, these data were not confirmed later.

Egypt's national television reported that the plane was stolen by a certain Ibrahim Samah. It was reported that he was about 30 years old and he is a student of the medical faculty at the University of Atlanta (USA).

Later it turned out that Samah was one of the passengers. The hijacker, as TASS reports , referring to Al-Yaum al-Sabia, turned out to be a professor of the history of the University of Cairo, the safe of ad-Din Mustafa. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus confirmed this information. He put forward his demands - the liberation of the women -conquered in Egypt.

On January 29, 2016, the media reported with reference to unofficial sources that the mechanic of the AGYPTAIR, whose cousin, joined the IG in Syria , was suspected of disaster. The mechanic was detained along with the alleged accomplices - two police officers and a loader of the airport. The Egyptian authorities refused to confirm this information.

On February 6, the Minister of Transport of Russia Maxim Sokolov promised that flying to Egypt will resume after strengthening security measures at the airports of this country.
