On March 31 at 10:00 Moscow City Court will consider an appeal against the sentence against Ildar Dadin. In December, Basmanny District Court judge Natalia Dudar sentenced him to three years in a penal colony under Article 212.1 of the Criminal Code (repeated violations at rallies). This is the first court decision under an article introduced into the Criminal Code in 2014. Vladimir Ionov and Irina Kalmykova, accused under the same article, who were under house arrest, fled to Ukraine.
Dadin's verdict provoked protests in Russia and abroad. The largest human rights organizations recognized him as a political prisoner and demanded the abolition of the "anti-rally" criminal article.
