Earlier, on March 15, deputies of the Verkhovna Rada submitted to parliament a resolution “On the termination of diplomatic relations with the Russian Federation.” The authors of the bill were parliamentarians from the “Radical Party” Oksana Korchinskaya and Yuriy-Bogdan Shukhevych, a member of the “Petro Poroshenko Bloc” Oleg Petrenko and non-factional deputy Vladimir Parasyuk.

The Verkhovna Rada Committee on Foreign Affairs supported this resolution .

According to one of the authors of the bill, Vladimir Parasyuk, the discussion of the resolution in the committee lasted “almost an hour.” “It was very difficult to observe how representatives of the executive branch and some people’s deputies behaved like lawyers for an aggressor country (the Verkhovna Rada recognized Russia as an aggressor country in January 2015. - RBC). But the decision has been made. Now we are waiting for support for the resolution in the Verkhovna Rada,” Parasyuk said.

According to the Ukrainian publication Strana.ua , during the consideration of the draft resolution, the main opponent of its adoption was Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Kislitsa. The publication obtained a document prepared by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with comments on this initiative. The main argument of the foreign policy department was that the severance of diplomatic relations with Russia would have a negative impact on the continuation of the peaceful settlement of the situation in Donbass.
