Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said in an interview with TV channels that he had signed a decree dismissing Viktor Shokin from the post of Prosecutor General. This was reported on Sunday, April 3, by Interfax. The Ukrainian leader intends to hold consultations with parliamentary factions regarding the candidacy of a new head of the oversight agency.

"I would like to emphasize that after the vote last Tuesday, documents were received from the Verkhovna Rada on Friday, a decree was signed dismissing Viktor Shokin from the post of Prosecutor General," Poroshenko said. "As of today, by my decree, he has been dismissed," he added.

On February 16, Poroshenko addressed his compatriots and said that he had asked Prosecutor General Shokin to resign. Three days later, the official representative of the President of Ukraine reported that Shokin's application for dismissal from the post of Prosecutor General had been received by the Presidential Administration. On the same day, the Ukrainian leader submitted a corresponding submission to the Verkhovna Rada. At the same time, on March 28, the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine explained that in relation to Prosecutor General Shokin, the parliament could consider his application for dismissal at his own request, and not the issue of resignation. The Rada gave its consent to Shokin's dismissal on March 29.
