France opens investigation into tax evasion and money laundering

France has launched a preliminary investigation into the Panama Papers leak. The French prosecutor's office said that the investigation is underway under articles on tax evasion and money laundering.

• On April 3, the first results of a global investigation into the documents of the Panamanian company Mossack Fonseca, which deals with the registration of offshore companies, were published. The documents mention the names of 12 world leaders and hundreds of famous people around the world.
• French President Francois Hollande, after the leak of the Panama Archives, thanked the journalists and promised that law enforcement agencies would check and open criminal cases if they found the necessary grounds.
• In Iceland, whose prime minister turned out to be the owner of the offshore, they demanded the resignation of the government. In Reykjavik, they decided to hold a mass action for early elections.
• The UK Internal Revenue Service has requested documents from the Panama Papers for its own investigation.
