Recall that the situation in the Karabakh conflict zone escalated on the night of Saturday, April 2. Azerbaijan and Armenia accuse each other of violating the ceasefire. Later, Azerbaijan unilaterally announced the suspension of military operations in the Karabakh conflict zone.
The Karabakh conflict began in 1988, when Nagorno-Karabakh, predominantly populated by Armenians, declared its secession from Azerbaijan and declared its own independence. This led to hostilities between Baku and Yerevan. As a result of the clashes, Azerbaijan lost control over Nagorno-Karabakh and a number of other territories.
In May 1994, the armistice agreements came into force.
