"The last address" needs assistants

The project “The Last Address”, engaged in perpetuating the memory of victims of political repression and state arbitrariness during the years of Soviet power, invites volunteers who would help to negotiate with residents or owners of houses on the installation of memorable signs.

“We need help, moreover, the most difficult type of help: not with money, but with arms, legs, time, efforts,” one of the project initiators, journalist Sergei Parkhomenko reports on Facebook.

According to him, activists of the “last address” do not have time to comply with applications for the installation of memorial signs. Now there are almost 1300 applications, new ones come every day, and more and more often they have to wait for their turn for many months.

“We are looking for volunteers - in Moscow! First of all in Moscow! “Who will be ready to participate in negotiations with residents or owners of houses on which we must install the signs of the“ last address ”,” writes Parkhomenko.

The project “The Last Address” is a public initiative that develops the ideas of the European memorial project “Stones of Twisting”, born in Germany more than 20 years ago and has since spread in 650 cities of 11 countries in Europe, which established more than 45 thousand memorial tablets in memory of the victims of the Holocaust.

The sign of the “Last Address” was developed on the basis of the project of architect Alexander Brodsky. This is a stainless steel plate in size 11 by 19 cm, on which several lines are applied with information about the victim of political repression.

Since the end of 2014, in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Perm, Tver, Barnaul, Taganrog, Pushkino, Maloyaroslavts, Bue, several villages of the Nizhny Novgorod region, the Komi-Permyatsky Autonomous Okrug has been installed more than 200 memorable signs.
