The icebreaker "Viktor Chernomyrdin" will be completed through the joint efforts of USC subsidiaries. As the Kommersant newspaper writes , citing Yevgeny Zagorodniy, vice president for civil shipbuilding at USC, part of the work will fall on the Admiralty Shipyards.

The order itself from FSUE “Rosmorport” is carried out by “Baltic Shipyard - Shipbuilding”. Initially, it was assumed that part of the work would be performed by the German shipyard Nordic Yards (for 1.5 billion rubles). But last year, the corporation decided to terminate the contract, since the construction of the superstructure in Germany could lead to increased losses on the project. According to E. Zagorodniy, USC managed to save 1 billion rubles thanks to the refusal of Nordic Yards services.

According to the publication, despite this, the shipbuilding corporation still does not fit into the amount of 7.94 billion rubles specified in the contract - losses on the project amount to 0.8-1 billion rubles. The reason is the depreciation of the ruble against foreign currencies (due to equipment from foreign manufacturers). At the beginning of the year, USC tried to get the Russian government to postpone the delivery date of the icebreaker to the end of 2017 and allocate 1 billion rubles from the federal budget for its completion. According to USC Vice President for Civil Shipbuilding, “it has not yet been possible to agree on rescheduling and additional financing at the state level.” The plant continues to operate using its own resources.

As RBC previously reported , the Project 22600 diesel-electric icebreaker with a capacity of 25 MW was laid down at the Baltic Plant in October 2012. The decision to award the company a contract for the construction of a series of diesel-electric icebreakers was made at a meeting led by Vladimir Putin when he was chairman of the Russian government. The contracts provide for the construction of one linear diesel-electric icebreaker of the new project 22600 with a power of 25 MW, as well as three linear diesel-electric icebreakers of the new project 21900 M with a power of 17.4 MW.
