On April 11, in the north of Moscow, a rally was held against the transfer of lands of the Timiryazev Academy for commercial development. About 500 people gathered for the protest campaign - with portraits of scientists, wheat cops and St. George ribbons. The requirements of students and teachers of the Academy were partially satisfied directly during the action: it turned out that Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev instructed to hold additional public hearings on the alienation of the lands of the Academy.
Students and teachers of the Timiryazev Academy have been prepared for a rally thoroughly. Crowds of people went to the stage along the larch alley, from the stage they were welcomed by the song “Russia, love and my glory, the brightest, itself strong!”. Here, the poster “Save Timiryazevka” was stretched here, next to two other banners - “not a paw of land” and “stop the collapse of the university”.
A large scandal around the Timiryazevo Academy began after it became known that more than a hundred hectares, on which there are gardens and experienced fields of the Academy at the Petrovsko-Razumovskaya metro station, the Ministry of Agriculture wants to transfer it to residential development. It was planned that this will be done by the Federal Fund for the Promotion of Housing Construction (RZHS). The Ministry of Agriculture and RZHS insisted that the lands of the Academy are used inefficiently. In particular, 20 hectares out of 45 are allegedly not used in the Michurinsky garden, and part of the trees in them was planted back in 1944. RZHS promised to allocate other lands under agricultural experiments, but in the suburbs.
Not only teachers and students, but also ten former ministers of agriculture in Russia and the USSR , opposed the development of experimental fields. In their opinion, the loss of these lands will lead to a deterioration in the agricultural industry in Russia as a whole.
“We want to take away the most remarkable fertile lands,” the professor of the Department of Economics and the chairman of the Council of Veterans Yuri Agirbov at the rally at the rally. According to another teacher, Sergei Chernov, to retire these lands at the Timiryazev Academy will lead to the “termination of the effective educational process” and to the gradual closure of the entire university. “But two Russian educational institutions are known around the world - this is the Moscow [State] University and the Timiryazev Academy,” he said.

Meanwhile, under the petition to prevent development on the lands of the academy on April 11, there were already more than 50 thousand signatures. Shortly before the rally, the Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said that the development project will be carried out through another, additional public hearings.
