An investigation into hundreds of thousands of files by Panamanian law firm Mossack Fonseca has revealed that many of the offshore companies it registered were run by front men, writes . The Sunday Times

So, it turned out that the manager of 10 thousand 361 companies was a woman who died more than ten years ago. Most of the companies were registered by Mossack Fonseca.

A Dutch television company that gained access to the documents found that the woman died in 2005. However, this irreversible circumstance did not become an obstacle to her continuing to perform management functions: she “signed” documents, “appeared” at meetings of governing bodies and was elected as company secretary.

Another woman turned out to be the manager of more than 7 thousand companies. At the same time, she herself lives in a two-room bungalow in the forest 20 miles from the capital of Panama. When reporters approached the woman with questions, she refused to comment.

On April 3, the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) published the results of a large-scale investigation into the offshore companies of world leaders, politicians and celebrities in Panama and the British Virgin Islands. The data was obtained as a result of leaked documents from the Panamanian law firm Mossack Fonseca, which provides services for registering offshore companies. ICIJ shared Mossack Fonseca's client data with more than 100 global media outlets. To date, at least 12 senior officials in different countries have been connected to offshore companies; in addition, officials, famous athletes and businessmen have been included in the ICIJ Panama Papers.

The published “Panamanian archives,” among other things, revealed information about offshore companies and foreign companies of 12 Russian officials or members of their families, as well as about companies whose beneficiaries are close friends of Vladimir Putin.
