The activities of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people have been suspended in Crimea

Crimean Prosecutor Natalya Poklonskaya ordered to suspend the activities of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people. Explaining her decision, she referred to the law on combating extremism. “All their propaganda will be banned,” Poklonskaya said.

Lawyer Jemil Temishev, representing the interests of the Mejlis, promised to appeal the decision of the prosecutor's office.

The decision [to suspend activities] implies a ban on the use of state and municipal media by the organization. In addition, the Majlis is prohibited from holding any mass events and using bank accounts, except for the purposes of economic activity.
