US Secretary of State John Kerry will discuss with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov the April 12 incident in the Baltic Sea involving the US Navy destroyer Donald Cook and Russian Su-24 bombers. This was stated by State Department spokesman John Kirby.
“The Secretary of State was alarmed by the images and reports of these overflights of the Donald Cook,” he said.
Kerry himself called the actions of Russian aviation "reckless, provocative and dangerous" and noted that the rules for the use of weapons allow shooting down an aircraft in such situations. “People need to understand that this is serious and that the US will not be intimidated on the high seas,” the US Secretary of State said.
