Former Yukos shareholders filed a petition with a court in India asking to recognize and enforce the decision of the Hague court to recover $50 billion in compensation from Russia. The RBC agency reports this.

Tim Osborne, representing the interests of Group Menatep Limited, explained to The Moscow Times that India contains “significant assets” of Russia, which the shareholders are claiming. It is assumed that we are talking about facilities related to the defense industry and nuclear energy. In addition, the government of the country owns shares of the Indian mobile operator Sistema Shyam TeleServices, and in New Delhi there are at least three buildings for which purchases were made through the Federal State Unitary Enterprise “Goszagranobstvobostvo”.

In July 2014, the European Court of Human Rights ordered Russia to pay former Yukos shareholders 1.86 billion euros. At the same time, the Arbitration Court in The Hague demanded another $50 billion from the country. The Russian authorities consider both decisions illegal and do not pay the money. In this regard, the injured party is trying to achieve the seizure of Russian property in other countries. These attempts are opposed by the International Legal Defense Center. He carries out the order of the Ministry of Justice to coordinate all legal activities to protect Russian state assets from claims in the Yukos case in the USA, Great Britain, Germany, Belgium, France and the Netherlands.
