Putin and Poroshenko discussed Savchenko, Alexandrov and Erofeev

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko discussed by phone the fate of Ukrainian Nadezhda Savchenko, convicted in the Russian Federation, and Russians Alexander Alexandrov and Yevgeny Yerofeev, who were sentenced to 14 years in prison by a court in Kiev on April 18.

“The presidents agreed that the Consul General of Ukraine in Rostov-on-Don will soon have access to N. Savchenko,” the press service of the Russian president said in a statement.

Other details of the conversation are not reported on the Kremlin website.

The press service of Poroshenko said that the Ukrainian president called on Putin to release Savchenko, reports Interfax . Putin's spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the conversation focused on "the settlement in the southeast of Ukraine, the current moments of bilateral relations."

• On April 18, Russians Yevgeny Yerofeyev and Alexander Aleksandrov, who were detained in May 2015 during a battle in the Lugansk region, were sentenced to 14 years in prison by the Goloseevsky District Court in Kyiv. They were found guilty, inter alia, of terrorism and waging a war of aggression.
• On March 22, 2016, Ukrainian servicewoman Nadezhda Savchenko was sentenced to 22 years in prison on charges of murdering VGTRK employees Igor Kornelyuk and Anton Voloshin. Even before the verdict was announced, Savchenko announced a dry hunger strike.
• Russian and Ukrainian media have repeatedly written about the possibility of exchanging Erofeev and Aleksandrov for Savchenko. It is assumed that the exchange can take place after the entry into force of the verdict to the Russians. There is no official confirmation of such agreements.
