On April 14, officers of the police of the Leninsky Department of Internal Affairs for Makhachkala detained Islamic activist Zurab Mammadov. According to his relatives, after the arrest, a lawyer was not allowed to see Zurab Mammadov, a disabled person with problems with the spine.
Mammadov is known not only as an Islamic activist, but also as a person, publicly, through a video, who addressed the public on December 7, 2015, to the prosecutor’s office and the FSB of Dagestan with a statement that he was being pursued by law enforcement officers and he was afraid that weapons might be planted on him or drugs.
As Zurab Mammadov suggested at that time, the attention of the security forces to him could be due to the fact that when they wanted to put him on a preventive record (as a person professing non-traditional Islam), he did not want to donate blood for DNA analysis. Witnesses of the fact that external surveillance is being carried out on him were also his friends.
As a result, after the detention of Mammadov, a pistol and narcotic substances were found in his possession. Relatives of Mammadov suggest that he is subjected to strong pressure at the police station, as he refuses a lawyer hired by his relatives, but at the same time does not refuse a lawyer by appointment (provided by the security forces).
