New Holland will open in August 2016

In St. Petersburg, the first stage of work to adapt the island of New Holland for modern use is completed. In August 2016, the island will open again for visitors.

As reported on the website of the New Holland , work on the restoration and adaptation of the historical corps of former warehouses, which will be held in stages until the restoration in 2025, will continue in parallel. The island will never close again, including in winter.

The opening program will be announced in July 2016.

In connection with the successful holding of the Summer in New Holland in previous years, the project investors decided to abandon the construction of a new building on the island and instead organize a full -fledged city park with the necessary infrastructure.

According to the General Plan of Restoration, developed by the Dutch company West 8 , at the first stage, the following works were completed in two years:

• organization, improvement and landscaping of the park in the internal space of the island;
• restoration and adaptation for the modern use of the buildings of the former forge (“blacksmith”), the house of the commandant and the former sea prison (“bottle”);
• restoration and improvement of the embankments of the Admiralty Canal and the internal water area of ​​the island (“bucket”);
• work on laying networks of engineering and technical support of the island;
• work on architectural illumination of the park and restored buildings;
• the device of the playground created in the image of the historical frigate "Peter and Pavel";
• the creation of a herbal garden near the building "Forge";
• The placement of temporary pavilions and solutions for conducting the activities of the cultural program and the necessary functions of the park (kiosks, information center, scene, toilets and entrance group).

The second stage of restoration and adaptation is planned to be completed in 2019. It includes the restoration of the building of the building of Corps No. 12 and the improvement of the surrounding area with an area of ​​more than 15,000 sq.m, located on the Kryukovo Canal, from the side of labor area.
