The plane flew over the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco to land in California. The plane took off last Thursday from Hawaii, where it had been undergoing repairs for the past nine months after its solar panels were damaged.

Solar Impulse 2 began its trip around the world from Abu Dhabi Airport on March 9, 2015. Pilots want to set a record for solar-powered aircraft. At the beginning of July last year, during the Solar Impulse flight from Japan to Hawaii, several records were set at once : in duration and in the length of the distance covered by a solar-powered aircraft. The pilot covered a distance of 8 thousand km in 118 hours. The absolute record for the duration of an aircraft's stay in the sky without refueling was also broken.

However, in mid-July, the pilots decided to suspend their trip around the world due to damage to the solar panels. For nine months, the plane was under repair in Hawaii, but on April 21 of this year, a message about the resumption of travel appeared on the project’s Twitter .

Solar Impulse 2 is equipped with 17 thousand solar panels, which allow it to travel long distances. The wingspan reaches 72 m, but the aircraft itself weighs 2.3 tons.
