US President Barack Obama, on Monday, April 25, will officially announce the additional sending of 250 military personnel to Syria to help the Islamic State (IG, Daish , the terrorist organization prohibited in Russia), the newspaper The Wall Street Journal has become known. Thus, the American military presence in the territory of the Arab Republic will increase from the current 50 to 300 people.
The new sending of the military to Syria is contrary to Obama's statements that he does not intend to endanger the life of the Americans, although, as the president himself said, public moods sometimes pushed him to such a step.
A high -ranking source told WSJ that his military advisers affected the change in Obama’s views, who expressed confidence that an increase in the number of American troops in Syria would more effectively consolidate the latest successes in the fight against Islamists.
Information WSJ was confirmed by adviser to President Ben ROS, reports Reuters.
The mentioned 250 people will go to Syria in small groups. Among them will be fighters of the special forces of the ground forces, doctors, as well as experts in the collection of information and logistics. What kind of special forces will be - the sources of the newspaper could not clarify.
It is assumed that military personnel will not take part in the battles with militants, but will limit themselves to the support of local resistance and the recruitment of the Sunnis into the ranks of the opponents of the Islamic State.
Recall that last fall Obama authorized the sending of about 50 members of special forces to the north of Syria as military advisers. The president said that they will engage in the training of representatives of the opposition who are fighting the IG, and will also advise them and provide various assistance.
When Obama was asked whether the decision to send special forces to Syria to Syria his own promise that the American military did not stalk on Syrian land, the president noted that the United States had previously carried out operations with the participation of special forces in Syrian territory and sending special units to the region of the fighters is only an expansion of these efforts.
The day before, the American leader again emphasized that sending ground forces to Syria will not help to achieve conflict resolving. “Send terrestrial troops to send to Syria and overthrow the regime for the United States or Great Britain. But I believe that we can exert international pressure on all parties, including Russia and Iran, which support Assad, as well as to moderate opposition groups, so that they sit down at the negotiating table and try to agree on a political crossing,” he said.
It should be noted that since the end of February, Syria has been operating in a ceasefire, agreed with the participation of the US and Russia. On Friday, the United States sent Russia new proposals for monitoring the observance of a ceasefire and delimiting the zones of military operations.
