In the Murmansk region, military personnel were offered housing without windows and doors

In the village of Alakurtti in the Murmansk region, servicemen of the motorized rifle Arctic brigade were offered dilapidated apartments with no windows and doors as permanent housing, writes military.rf.

According to the publication, problems with housing are experienced mainly by contract soldiers from privates to sergeants.

“I, like many other colleagues, rent housing on my own, because the options offered by the command are absolutely unsuitable for living,” said one of the sergeants.

According to the military personnel, most of the apartments offered for occupancy did not even have glass in the windows, locks on the doors or the doors themselves.

“There are even holes in the walls the size of a three-liter jar. I was at a colleague’s house, and instead of a toilet there was a hole in the riser, they flush it with a hose,” said a military man who served in the brigade in 2015.

The village has new buildings built using Finnish technologies; all apartments in these houses belong to the village administration. The decision about which military personnel are provided with living space and who is not is decided at the headquarters of the military unit. According to the publication’s interlocutors, this housing is given only to officers or close contract soldiers.

“These houses are shown in TV reports about our unit and they say that all our servicemen live in such conditions. And our people, those who managed to get normal housing, also chime in on camera about how good and wonderful everything is. But they don’t say that many of their colleagues have to do repairs on their own in these “mansions,” said contract soldier Valery.

Other servicemen of the brigade also confirmed this information, noting that some officers, “without wives and children, live in three-room apartments, while there is no housing in the village for contract soldiers with three to four children.”
