The sister of Ukrainian soldier Nadezhda Savchenko Vera crossed the Russian-Ukrainian border, said on Twitter. Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko
“The Consul General in Rostov just informed me that Vera Savchenko crossed the Ukrainian border and is already in her native land,” the message said.
The day before, Vera Savchenko, who was in the car of Ukrainian diplomats, was not allowed out of Russia by border guards. Her passport was taken away, and a representative of the Consulate General blocked the car doors until her colleagues arrived. The detention of the car was due to the fact that a Ukrainian citizen was put on the wanted list in the case of insulting a Grozny judge.
Later, other representatives of the Consulate General of Ukraine in Rostov-on-Don managed to return Savchenko’s passport. They took her to Rostov, to the territory of the Consulate General. Diplomats feared that Vera Savchenko would not be able to leave the building because of the criminal case.
A case was opened against Vera Savchenko after she participated as a public defender in the trial of Ukrainians Mykola Karpyuk and Stanislav Klykh. The judge reprimanded Savchenko for speaking from the seat, and then removed him from the defense team. According to investigators, when the Ukrainian woman was taken out of the courtroom, she said: “Not a judge, but a schmuck.” Savchenko herself denies that she insulted the judge.
