Suspect of serial murders arrested in Novosibirsk
A 51-year-old man suspected of serial killings of prostitutes has been arrested in Novosibirsk. This was reported by the Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Novosibirsk region. Investigators did not name the arrested person.
According to the IC, the suspect committed 17 murders in Novosibirsk between 1998 and 2006. He dismembered the bodies of women and hid them in different parts of Novosibirsk and the region.
“It took about 10 years of patient work of employees of the regional investigation department and operational officers of the regional department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs to solve this crime,” the IC said in a statement. During the investigation, genetic samples of more than five thousand men were obtained and more than three thousand witnesses were interrogated.
Currently, in order to consolidate the evidence base, investigators and operational officers conducted more than 10 searches in the places of residence and stay of the accused, during which objects and objects of interest were seized.
