The lower house of the French parliament voted for a resolution on lifting sanctions from Russia

Most of the deputies of the National Assembly of France voted for lifting sanctions from Russia. As reported on the website of the lower house of the French parliament, a resolution was adopted with a call to the country's government to support the abolition of anti -Russian sanctions.

Nevertheless, the former French Prime Minister Francois Fillon is sure that most Frenchmen advocate lifting sanctions from Russia. "This showed today's vote. Even the ruling party of socialists could not block the corresponding resolution," he said according to the results of the parliamentary meeting (quote for TASS).

The draft resolution regarding the abolition of sanctions was introduced to the parliament on March 17 by deputy Thierry Mariani, who is a member of the Committee on International Affairs and is the co-chair of the Franco-Russian Dialogue organization. He called the sanctions "completely ineffective" and threatening interests of France.

Recall that Mariani was part of the delegation from the French parliament, which visited the Crimean peninsula in the summer of 2015. The deputy witnessed that in the new Russian region there are no signs of occupation. “This is a peaceful region, and people live here freely and happily,” the French politician said then.

The French Foreign Ministry condemned the trip of deputies to the Crimea, calling it the "personal initiative of parliamentarians." The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, in response to a visit to the French deputies of Crimea, called for the ban on entry into the country, and the General Prosecutor's Office of Ukraine opened criminal proceedings on the fact of "violation of the procedure for entering the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine and departure from it."
