The largest US cable operator, Comcast will buy Dreamworks Animation studio for $ 3.8 billion, CNBC reports .

The transaction will be made by the broadcasting company NBCUNIVERSAL, 51% of which belongs to Comcast. It is expected that the deal will be closed by the end of 2016.

On April 27, The Wall Street Journal announced the purchase of an animation studio of Stephen Spielberg for $ 3 billion. As the publication noted, if the transaction takes place, Comcast will become a competitor to Disney in the production of family films.

DreamWorks Animation was allocated from DreamWorks in 2004. The studio released more than 30 full-length animated films, including Kung Fu Panda, Shrek, Madagascar. In 2014, the Japanese SoftBank and the manufacturer of Hasbro toys were interested in the purchase of the studio.

Comcast owns Universal Picture, which has its own animated unit - Illumination Entertainment. This studio has released the cartoon "Ugly Me".
