The Russian Consulate General in Aleppo came under mortar fire. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation reported that one mine fell on the territory of the representative office, three more exploded near the fence.
No one was injured as a result of the shelling. The consular staff was evacuated in January 2013. Maintenance of order in the representation is carried out by technical personnel from among the Syrians.
According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, militants of the al-Nusra Front (the organization is recognized as a terrorist organization in Russia and banned) and allied groups fired at the consulate.
We strongly condemn this terrorist attack. We once again draw attention to the attempts of terrorists and the forces providing assistance and support to them to undermine the cessation of hostilities in Syria, established in accordance with the Joint Statement of Russia and the United States of February 22.
