The Moscow City Court confirmed the previous extension of Pavlensky's arrest

On April 29, the Moscow City Court recognized as lawful the decision of the Tagansky District Court of Moscow to extend the arrest of Pyotr Pavlensky until May 5. This was reported by the international human rights group "Agora" with reference to the words of the lawyer Olga Dinze, representing the interests of the artist.

“The Moscow City Court left our appeal in defense of Pavlensky unsatisfied, the decision of the Tagansky Court of Moscow of March 31 remained unchanged. Piotr continued the rule of silence via videoconferencing until his actions are reclassified as terrorism, which he reported to the court today,” Olga Dinze noted.

A day earlier, on April 28, the Meshchansky District Court of Moscow held preliminary hearings in the same case and extended Pyotr Pavlensky's arrest until October 20, 2016. On the eve of the hearing, lawyer Olga Dinze was informed that the meeting was being postponed. And an hour and a half before the start of the hearing, they said that it would still take place. The defender suggested that in this way they tried to mislead her in order to invite the accused lawyer by appointment.

On the night of November 9, 2015, in Moscow, performance artist Pyotr Pavlensky held a performance called "The Threat": he set fire to the door to the FSB building on Lubyanka, after which he surrendered to the police without resistance. Now the artist is under arrest on charges of damaging a cultural heritage site. The next preliminary hearing is set for May 4.
