Petro Poroshenko fired Viktor Gvozd from the post of head of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine. A decree on this was published on the website of the head of state . “Dismiss Viktor Ivanovich Gvozdy from the post of head of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine,” the document says. The reasons for dismissal are not specified.

Gvozd became head of the Foreign Intelligence Service in February 2014.

According to “112.ua” , Gvozd is a career intelligence officer, participated in UN peacekeeping operations in the territory of the former Yugoslavia, worked as a defense attache at the Ukrainian Embassy in Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, was a member of the Ukrainian delegation to the UN Security Council and served in the Security Service Ukraine.

This is the second resignation of a leading security official in Kyiv in April. Two weeks ago , Poroshenko fired the commander of the Ukrainian Navy, Sergei Gaiduk . The Ukrainian president explained the reasons the next day on his Facebook. He wrote that he did this “taking into account the position of volunteers and the public.” Volunteers in February accused Gaiduk of sabotaging fleet reform.

Two weeks ago, the prosecutor of the Odessa region, Nikolai Stoyanov, was also fired. Poroshenko made a demand to immediately vacate the position. Before this, the governor of the Odessa region, Mikheil Saakashvili, demanded Stoyanov’s resignation , calling him a “separatist.”

Shortly before Stoyanov left office, Viktor Shokin was fired from the post of Prosecutor General .
