In Baghdad, hundreds of demonstrators demanding a change in the Iraqi government stormed the parliament building.
Dozens of people climbed a concrete fence surrounding the so-called "Green Zone" (a heavily guarded area where government offices and foreign embassies are located), then toppled one of the sections of the fence and headed towards the parliament.
The demonstration is attended by supporters of the radical Shiite preacher Muqtada al-Sadr.
The city has declared a state of emergency.
